Global climate change is termed as the shifts in weather patterns that are characterized by the changes in temperature, humidity, precipitation and the climatic seasons in a particular geographic zone. Global climate change accounts for the maintenance of the ecosystem. This is because climate change prescribes the nature and conditions of a specific environment. Climate change occurs gradually and is measured over long periods of time in accordance to the patterns and changes in the weather and how it affects the surroundings therein. For this reason, the world is made up of several climatic zones which have served well in keeping a balance in the environment. The global climate change affects the world as a whole. Recent studies have however exposed and underlying risk of climate change that has been adversely affecting the environment and will gradually lay waste to the environmental balance in the world (Mc Michael, 2004). Issues of global warming have revealed the dangers of a great shift in the ecosystem due to climate change which begs the question of whether or not the destruction of the environment is as a result of changes in climate over time. As the years pass, it is hard not to notice the changes in the environment that are gradual and deadly for future generations. The paper thus seeks to understand, from an argumentative stand point, the consequences of global climate change on the environment and whether such changes will either positively or negatively affect the ecosystem in the days to come.

The rate of global climate change is directly linked to the rate of global warming that occurs on the earth. Global warming occurs when carbon dioxide as well as other such greenhouse gases become excessive in the air. This leads to an increase in temperature on the surface of the earth. Simultaneously, the gases end up poking holes on the ozone layer. Such gaps in the earth’s ozone layer releases radiation which is dangerous to the eco system. As a result, the climate eventually changes causing a disruption in the environment. Global warming and global climate change bear their roots in human activities above all things. Due to activities such as manufacturing and production of commodities, gases are released in the air that become a problem for the environment due to the weakening of the ozone layer that shields the earth from radiation that threatens the eco system. As the world continually realizes more ways of making life easier since the time of the industrial revolution, the environment has similarly been more and more at risk of deterioration. In fact, for every creation established in the industrial world, the environment takes a hit every time making global climate change inevitable.

Many scientists believe that the results of changes in climate change are hazardous to the environment, not only now but in future as well. It is quite clear how the environment has gradually deteriorated as the years go by. In states such as California, the climate change has led to minimal rainfall annually. In this light, many parts of the states are turning into semi-arid regions and water supply is becoming a big problem (Lal, 2004). In addition to this, many farmers are being forced to look into alternative farming methods and ways of utilizing water supply which has become a limited commodity in the region so as to keep up with the changing weather patterns. Such outcomes of change in climate are also being felt all around the world including the Artic.

Climate change is an issue that must be carefully considered and widely understood by each individual worldwide. This is because the issue touches on their well-being and the environment. Beside the fact that weather patterns have been gradually shifting and thereby causing distress to the daily routines and workings of human beings internationally, climate change is seen to cause disturbance to the survival of several animals in their natural surroundings (Bale, 2002). Although some animals, like human beings, have been forced by the present situation to adapt to the changes in climate around them, others are unable to sustain themselves in such harsh conditions brought about by change in climate hence giving need for migration. This may cause an imbalance in the ecosystem which may be hard to repair for a long time to come. Moreover, the global climate change which is set in motion at the moment may be the underlying reason for the extinction of particular animals and vegetation which are unable to survive in the changing climate. This is based on the scientific reasoning that the most affected feature in change of weather patterns is the temperature (Root, 2003). Increase and decrease in temperature may cause severe damage to the ecosystem. (Smith, 1989).

The above notwithstanding, global climate change may also be a force for positive influence in the environment. Due to global climate change, the sea level is likely to rise as a consequence of the melting ice in the Artic and finding its way in the Pacific and Atlantic oceans. Furthermore, the melting away of ice in the Artic would eventually open up the ice filled continent for business and trade like every other continent in the world. The Artic would be an attractive venue to open up trade since loading and docking would have been made easier and simpler. Fuel consumption would be to a minimal as the fuel that would ordinarily have been burnt out trying to venture into the icy sea wouldn’t be an issue of concern anymore. Unlike the concerns over agricultural produce and its substantial decline in the world due to changes in climate, research carried out reveals that agricultural produce is on the rise in terms of productivity consequently from change in climate.

All in all, global climate change is defined as the gradual shift in weather patterns on the earth. Global climate change is usually brought about by global warming which is the increase of temperatures on the surface of the earth that is as a result of emanation of greenhouse gases in the air. The effects of global warming include radiation on the surface of the earth which is due to the gradual destruction of the ozone layer. Global climate change is generally viewed to have negative consequences of which the most discontenting of them all would be the lack of rain fall. In many areas worldwide, the change of weather patterns often leaves scars on the environment that cannot be easily eliminated. However, global climate change is also perceived to have its qualities that would positively affect the world. The outcome of change in climate could alter and redefine the way people handle and carry out activities in the Artic. Due to the melting away of ice, the sea water levels would be likely to rise in both the Pacific and Atlantic oceans. Also, the melting away of the ice could mean expansion and establishment of businesses in the Artic which would very well boost the economy of the country. In light of the contention between the positive and the negative effects of global climate, it is clear to state that the negative influence outweighs the positive influences of global climate change. For the reason that global climate change affects the entire ecosystem makes it an important aspect in balancing the same. The change in weather patterns may be catastrophic for the environment if not properly handled. It is the duty of every human being to take better care of the environment so as to avoid gradual shifts in the weather patterns because global warming. Although there are some perks to global climate change, it is also a major cause for alarm in consideration of the state of the world today in line with innovation and innovative steps that help ease the burden for everyday living.
